Overview

Ephraim Cabot, a vigorous and greedy patriarch, fiercely clings to his New England farm, a legacy that has burdened his two deceased wives. His most resentful son, Eben, believes he deserves sole ownership, as his mother once held significant claim. The situation intensifies when Ephraim introduces his new wife, Anna, who becomes a rival for the farm's inheritance.
