In a desperate move, Louhi abducts Annikki to force her brother into crafting the Sampo, a mystical artifact that generates wealth and sustenance. When Lemminkäinen's attempts to retrieve the Sampo fall short, Louhi retaliates by stealing the sun, casting the world into a chilling, sunless abyss.
