Overview

The film tells the true story of the Komagata Maru incident from the 20th century, focusing on a group of Indian Sikh immigrants traveling on a Japanese steamship named Komagata Maru, which reached Vancouver with 376 passengers. However, Canada’s discriminatory immigration laws barred most of the Indian passengers from entry. After enduring two months of legal disputes and protests, the ship was ultimately compelled to turn back to India. This event underscores the racial biases and immigration policies of the era, serving as a powerful symbol of the fight for equality and justice.
