Overview

Set in 1957, this poignant romantic tragedy follows 20-year-old Guy Foucher, a French auto mechanic, as he falls for 17-year-old Geneviève Emery, who works in her mother’s struggling umbrella shop. On the night before Guy departs for a two-year military service in Algeria, they share a passionate moment that leads to Geneviève's pregnancy. Faced with a difficult decision, she must choose between remaining loyal to Guy and awaiting his return or accepting the proposal of a wealthy diamond merchant who can offer her a more secure future.
