Overview

Carl Brown and Annie McGairy share a deep love, rooted in their families' shared Irish immigrant history. However, Carl's parents disapprove of Annie, viewing her impoverished upbringing as a barrier to their son's future. Defying expectations, Annie elopes with Carl while he’s away at college, but their marriage faces numerous challenges. A disapproving dean complicates their academic lives, while Carl’s jealousy and parental anger create tension.
