Overview

Set against the backdrop of post-emancipation Jamaica, Annette Cosway, a French colonist, struggles with poverty after marrying the prejudiced Englishman Paul Mason. Tragedy strikes when their young son dies in a fire ignited by former slaves, prompting Mason to abandon his devastated wife and their Creole daughter, Antoinette.
