Overview

Sheldon Bart (Fred Ward) is a wandering con artist who reunites with his old acquaintance, Brother Bud (Harry Dean Stanton), a notorious con man dabbling in faith healing and the trade of stolen cars, at a revival tent in a small town. As Sheldon assists Brother Bud, he finds himself smitten with Arlene (Cindy Williams), a supermarket cashier who is both devoutly religious and fascinated by UFOs, yet profoundly lonely. When Arlene experiences a vision of an impending UFO, the community responds to the situation in various ways.
