Overview

Jose's journey begins at age five, learning chess from his abuelita, inspired by his grandfather, a champion in Mexico. Now a member of the Brownsville school chess team, he finally steps into the limelight, aiming to lead his team to the Texas state finals. Under the guidance of Coach Mr. Alvarado, who emphasizes perseverance and teamwork against obstacles, Jose not only hones his skills but also unearths his inner strength. As he navigates the challenges of competition, he seeks to mend the fractures within his own family, highlighting resilience both on and off the board.
