Sixty years ago, understanding of wild elephants was minimal until Scottish biologist Iain Douglas-Hamilton arrived in Tanzania in 1965. Living closely with these majestic creatures, he and his family, including wife Oria and daughters Saba and Dudu, formed deep bonds with elephants like matriarch Boadicea and nurturing mother Virgo. However, their idyllic existence was shattered by a devastating ivory poaching crisis, prompting Iain to shift from research to activism. As a pioneering conservationist, he fought against the ivory trade, which was ultimately banned in 1989. Now, alongside a new generation of Kenyan conservationists, Iain's ongoing work reveals the captivating lives of elephants, underscoring the importance of standing up for what
