In 1987, the Hawke administration found itself in a desperate struggle for survival. Bob Hawke yearned for an accomplishment that no other Labor Prime Minister had achieved: securing a third consecutive term. To avoid being ousted by discontented voters, he needed miraculous interventions. However, from the political wilderness emerged significant opportunities, as environmental issues gained prominence, offering a chance to revitalize Labor's chances at the polls.
