During a work trip in Chicago, Richard meets a stunning woman who strikingly resembles Melissa. Claiming that it would benefit his ailing mother, Richard persuades Samantha Ross to accompany him back to San Francisco and pose as Melissa. After agreeing to Samantha's substantial fee, their arrangement is finalized.
