Feeling overshadowed by Marcia, Jan is determined to achieve something her sister never accomplished. However, her spirits sink further when she doesn't make the pom-pom squad while her friend does. Just when she thinks things can't get worse, she surprises herself by winning first place in an essay contest, only to discover that her teacher had actually miscalculated the scores.
