In late summer of 1932 in Chicago, Eliot Ness and his team had successfully curtailed the flow of narcotics arriving from Asia and southern Europe. However, the Underworld quickly adapted, discovering alternative methods to feed the city’s 5,000 drug addicts. The Syndicate resorted to robbing pharmacies, doctors' offices, and wholesale drug suppliers—targeting any location that stocked pain-relieving medications.
