Satan arrives in Cicely, posing as a salesman for whirlpools, and promises to turn Shelly's dream of transforming the Brick into a grand casino into reality. Meanwhile, Ed accidentally alters the results of a cold medicine study that Joel is conducting for Johns Hopkins. Chris introduces a ventriloquist's dummy on his radio show, which quickly outshines him with its blunt humor. Maurice becomes convinced that Joel's cold remedy contains a new appetite suppressant and pressures him for details. When that fails, he enlists Hayden to sneak the information. To realize her dream, Shelly only needs to set Holling's old bathrobe on fire.
