Episode Overview

A traveler arrives at a French asylum to observe its reputed 'soothing system'—a gentle approach where patients guide their own treatment. But the place has changed: a harsh new regime now rules. As he tours the wards, he's struck by the doctors' cold cruelty and the prisoners' wild protests. The truth shatters him: the supposed physicians are the inmates, and the men tarred and feathered in the cells are the real keepers, overthrown and locked away by those they once treated.
