Title: Love Child Plot: A burglary takes place at the Ashfordly Council Offices' Children's Department, where Nick confronts the thief, but the burglar manages to flee with a sensitive file regarding an abortion. Meanwhile, Kate assists a girl named Sandie who injures her hand, all while a child goes missing in Whitby. It’s revealed that Sandie orchestrated the break-in and kidnapped the toddler, believing it to be her own child she had given up for adoption. Additionally, Greengrass becomes obsessed with pigeon racing but is devastated when his pigeons fall prey to peregrine falcons. He reports the incident to Nick, who dismisses it as a non-police issue. Later, two bird watchers discover their falcon eggs destroyed, leading Blaketon to wrongly suspect Greengrass. It turns out Lord Ashfordly's gamekeeper is the culprit, prompting Greengrass to demand an apology from Blaketon, which he never receives!
