It’s been more than a week since the Oniwaban Group last pursued them, giving Megumi the chance to bond with the Kamiya Dojo members. Yet, Sanosuke remains troubled, grappling with the knowledge that Megumi was responsible for the opium that led to his friend's demise. Then, out of the blue, Megumi vanishes. The group discovers a letter she left behind, claiming she departed of her own accord, but Kenshin and the others sense something is off. They resolve to investigate Kanryu Takeda's mansion, the man who has been sending spies after her.
