Susannah receives an enticing job offer from a foundation in New York, prompting her and Gary to reconsider their relationship. Meanwhile, Ellyn discovers that Jeffrey is returning to his first wife. As Richard prepares for a business trip, Ellyn persuades him to stay for coffee. He seems a bit aloof but gives her an affectionate kiss and tells her he loves her before leaving. At Race Street, Susannah discovers that a roof leak has destroyed numerous boxes of records, reigniting her desire for the New York job. She later shares her thoughts with Gary about pursuing the opportunity. Meanwhile, Ellyn calls Jeffrey in Indianapolis, only to learn he has moved on to Los Angeles. At the Steadmans' gathering, Gary and Susannah have private discussions with Michael and Hope.
