Oedipus faced a tragedy unlike any other in mortal history. Born to King Laius of Thebes, he was cursed by the Gods, who warned that if Laius had a son, that son would eventually take his life. To prevent this grim fate, Laius abandoned Oedipus, leaving him far from Thebes. Raised away from his true home, Oedipus lived unaware of his identity and the dark prophecy that loomed over him.
