Drawn to the picturesque setting of Lincolnshire, where the wedding took place, Dalziel decides to take a holiday of his own. However, trouble finds him once again when he encounters a flooded road and a stranded vehicle, leading to an unexpected rescue by a funeral procession. The deceased, Conrad Fielding, has a stunning widow named Bonnie who offers Dalziel shelter until his car is repaired, but the atmosphere at the Fielding family's beautiful yet financially troubled Lake House is anything but tranquil.
